Lighting the Way: Reflections from Our 2026 Rwanda Distribution
John and I have just returned from another incredible journey to Rwanda. Joining us were Shine On Rwanda supporters Rich Laws and Leanna and Jamie Harris, as we partnered with our in-country organization, NPO-TER, to distribute hundreds of solar lights to families in the remote Gisagara District of southern Rwanda.
As we delivered the lights, we were welcomed with extraordinary warmth, kindness, and joy by the hundreds of people in the rural communities we serve. We heard inspiring stories about the many ways these simple solar lights are transforming daily life—helping families save money, making it easier to care for babies, elderly relatives, and those who are ill, enabling children to study after dark, and providing safer travel at night by reducing the risk of snake bites and other hazards.
One of the most meaningful parts of our trip was visiting families who had received solar lights during previous distributions. Their heartfelt gratitude and firsthand accounts reinforced just how profound and lasting the impact of these lights has been on their lives.
It was a deeply moving experience that will stay with us for years to come.
We are already preparing for our 2027 distribution program, with a goal of providing 4,000 solar lights. With your support, in 2027 we can brighten the lives of more than 20,000 people, bringing greater safety, opportunity, and hope to families across Rwanda.
