The Problem:
More than 2.5 million people in rural Rwanda live without access to electricity, making life after sunset more difficult and unsafe. When night falls, children can’t study, cooking becomes hazardous, and mothers struggle to care for their families. While candles, kerosene lamps, and small flashlights offer some light, they come at a high cost and may be dangerous to use. When the equatorial sun sets year-round at 6 PM, the long, dark nights limit productivity, opportunities, and wellbeing.

The Solution:
The solar lights distributed by Shine On Rwanda offer a cleaner, safer, and more affordable alternative to harmful and costly light sources. These lights help improve health, safety, educational outcomes, and overall wellbeing, contributing to greater economic stability. Working alongside local leaders and partners, we prioritize delivering lights to families with young mothers, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, students, and others in need.
In partnership with our Rwandan NGO partner, Think About Education Rwanda, the Shine On Rwanda initiative has distributed thousands of solar lights over the past two years, improving the lives of more than 15,000 people.
